Was passiert wenn man sämtliche Inhalte (Texte, Bilder, Werbung usw.) von einer Website entfernt? Letztendlich ist die Seite dann vollkommen nackt und es bleibt nur das Grundgerüst stehen. Das Ergebnis sieht am Beispiel von CNN.com dann ungefähr so aus:
Paul Armstrong hat sich mit seinem Projekt »web.without.words« genau das zum Ziel gemacht: er möchte Websites »entkleiden«, um so das seiner Meinung nach Wesentliche sichtbar zu machen. Jede Woche nimmt er sich eine bekannte Website vor und rekonstruiert sie indem er alle Texte und Bilder entfernt und durch Blöcke ersetzt. Was am Ende übrig bleibt, ist ein Wireframe der Seite und verdeutlicht sehr gut die Seitenstruktur.
Paul Armstrong beschreibt sein Projekt folgendermaßen:
web.without.words started simply as a way for me »practice what I preach« – to visually represent my core belief that hierarchy, grid systems and uniformity ultimately lead to a more natural user experience. By showing the overall structure of any website, by stripping naked all the distractions of text and ads and images and showing a site for what the eye unconsciously perceives. The eye strives for pattern, consistency, unformity, predictability and balance in the complex lexicon of visual language unfurled to us constantly. My desire has always been to educate my clients and constituents about why a design is effective or ineffective (not merely beautiful or ugly) and my hope is that web.without.words can be a small step toward being that for others who visit.
Ich finde das Projekt recht interessant – vor allem hinsichtlich der Informationsarchitektur und damit zusammenhängend der Wireframes. Man bekommt anhand der Beispiele einen ganz anderen Blick für die Website und lernt so viel über das Layout und Raster einer Seite. Dieses kann man dann auf die eigene Gestaltung sehr gut übertragen.
